Raising Chocobos
Requirements:
Highwind,
Money, Time, Patience, Luck, Access to Gold Saucer easily
World
Map
To breed and raise chocobos, you're gonna need a lot of money, patience, and luck. Chocobos can be used to swim, climb, and go to places the Highwind or any other vehicles cannot reach.
Here are numbered instructions to getting a Gold Chocobo. Remember that new-born chocobos will possess a random element, which may have been affected by its parents. Remember also to save regularly, especially before attempting a breed. Reseting is something that will be done to get a certain chocobo.
1. Pilot the Highwnd to the Chocobo Farm and grab the Chocobo Lure materia if you haven't already got one. Now talk to Choco Bill and purchase at least four stalls (although purchasing all six is alright). If you have any unwanted chocobos, just kick them out of the barn to make room.
2. Don't catch a chocobo yet because you need to get certain items. Pilot the Highwind to Icicle Area and run around on the grass. Eventually your party will encounter an enemy that looks like a red dinosaur called a Vlakorados. Steal or win a Carob Nut from it (You will need a total of 3 Carob Nuts). Now enter Chocobo Sage's house and buy 40 Sylkis Greens (You only need to buy one if you've got W-Item ^_^). Finally pilot the Highwind to Goblin Island and encounter monsters in the forest that looks like little imps with Boxing Gloves called Goblins. Steal or win a Zeio Nut from them (You only need one).
3. Save your game. Equip Chocobo Lure materia, and head to the chocobo tracks on the shore of the Gold Saucer area. Capture a chocobo and dismount. You will be asked whether to take it to the Chocobo Stables or let it loose. Take it back to the stables and repeat this until the you've caught 2-4 chocobos. Head back to the chocobo farm and talk to Choco Billy. Check your chocobos and keep a good chocobo, then let the others go. You can name your chocobo or keep it "Choco".
4. Keep
Chocobo Lure equipped. Head to Mideel continent and catch around
2-4 chocobos from the tracks there. Head back to the Chocobo Stables
and check your chocobos. Make sure you keep a chocobo that has the
opposite sex to the one you caught near the Gold Saucer. Now save
your game and ask Choco Billy to mate the two chocobos with a Carob Nut.
Hopefully the next morning you'll get a Blue or Green chocobo! If
not, you can reset the game.
Note:
In most cases, if the two chocobos you are going to mate (for a Green or
Blue chocobo) has a higher class such as B or A, there is a better chance
to receive a coloured chocobo. Also if the sex of the chocobo isn't
what you want, just reset and the same chocobo's sex could differ.
5. Now you should have a Green or Blue Chocobo! Note that it doesn't matter what colour you receive first. Waste some time (about 20 minutes) such as levelling up in Mideel or have some Condor War battles. After wasting time, save your game. Head back to the Chocobo Farm and mate the Gold Saucer chocobo and Mideel chocobo again with the second Carob Nut. If you get a chocobo with the opposite colour of you Blue/Green one and is the opposite sex, congratulations! If not, reset your game and try again. Save your game after you have both a Green a Blue chocobos, male and female.
6. Feed each of your Green and Blue chocobos 10 Sylkis Greens. Now pilot the Highwind to get to the Gold Saucer via North Corel's ropeway. Go to the Chocobo Square and talk to Ester. She will teach you how to race chocobos. Now race with one of your coloured chocobos and win 3 times in the current class to advance to the next class (remember holding L1+L2+R1+R2 for quick stamina). Once one of your coloured chocobos has hit class A, race with the other coloured chocobo until its class A as well.
7. Return to the Chocobo Farm and save your game. Mate your Blue and Green chocobos (refer to step 4 for details) with your last Carob Nut. If everything's turned out right you should get a Black chocobo! If you are running out of room you can kick out your first tame chocobos; the ones you got from Mideel and Gold Saucer tracks.
8. Equip Chocobo Lure and pilot the Highwind and land on the large strip of grass on the edge of the Icicle Area, near Icicle Inn. Head west a little and you should find some chocobo tracks in the snow. Catch around 2-4 chocobos and then head back to the Chocobo Farm. Talk to Choco Billy to move chocobos. Now only move a chocobo that runs really fast and fits Choco Billy's description of a "Wonderful Chocobo". Make sure the sex of the "wonderful" chocobo is opposite to your Black one. After moving it into the barn, release all the chocobos in the fenced area. Feed your Black and Wonderful chocobo 10 Sylkis Greens each.
9. It's back to chocobo racing! Race your Black and Wonderful chocobos until both of them are class A. Head back to the Chocobo Farm and save your game. Now mate your Black and Wonderful chocobo with a Zeio Nut, and with a little luck in the next morning you should receive a Gold Chocobo!
